GOOGLE | NEST

2021-23

Google approached The Mill to partner together on a collection of explainer films for their Nest Renew program. It was wonderful to art direct and be involved throughout the process but also very early on to develop a visual language and system that would then be used across the brand ecosystem.
The films exist in a science fair, DIY, miniture world, where all the materials could be sourced from your everyday scrapbook supplies and garage storage. That idea helped inform the design of all the props such as the eventual houses, cars and trees.
We reinforced the physicality of the world by setting some rules for how things would animate and exist in space, rolling balls would be pushed through tubes, rotors would turn through a crank system and cars would drive through slots in the ground.
